-
Rumours are that you plan to eliminate the $500 per month wellness payment, is this true?
Answer: I do not plan on taking it away but revisiting the ratified documents to open up to ALL members, not just the members as of June 2023; this has been a grave oversight that violates the rights of new members.
-
Requests for funding have been ignored and calls not returned; how will Council ensure members are accessing the services they require in a timely manner?
Answer: For any government body, it is extremely important that the elected officials do not get involved with programs and services or be involved in the decision making. Policies are in place for administrative side to follow to provide programs and services fairly and without political interference. I would encourage members to contact the CAO and express any concerns, should that not expedite a response.
-
There is a lack of information provided to membership regarding Caldwell owned businesses and projects, how will you make sure membership gets the information they request and are entitled to know?
Answer: Communication and transparency will be a priority in all aspects of Caldwell. The businesses are operating using monies that arguable belong to the entire community. I will ensure Council provides updates on each business, and when possible, ensure financial statements are provided to membership. Board meeting minutes will also be provided to membership so they are able to view performance and be privy to as much information as possible without breaching confidentiality.
-
Many members reside outside of the local area of the band and can't access food bank and cultural events, will you consider some alternative to these programs and services for those of us who can't attend in person?
Answer: Yes. We want to explore all programs to be as inclusive as possible. Being creative and thinking outside the box is an area I thrive in and it's up to Chief and Council to lobby the government to meet our everchanging needs as a community.
-
Membership meetings do not allow for members to ask questions outside the agenda set by Council, can this be changed or is there another avenue for members to ask questions in an open forum?
Answer: I will implement a one hour session per week where members can attend in person or via zoom to ask questions and update members on what has been done during the course of that week. Members who are not able to attend by zoom or in person will be welcome to email in their questions for Council and the Council will provide the answer during that session. Each session will be available online after the meetings.
-
Do you plan on moving the Trust?
Answer: The Trust requires a general membership meeting to discuss. Several concerns have been presented by members and it deserves our time and attention.
-
It's been said that you will change the codes and laws if you get elected, is this true and how would you change them?
Answer: The membership and election codes are long overdue for revisions but the members need to be involved in the process and determine the changes. Chief and Council do not hold the authority to revise these, the membership holds the authority.

If elected as Chief, what are your top priorities?
Answer: Information sharing, especially about the gas station, our only profitable business. Engagement and consultation, currently this does not happen meaningfully. A business hub and promotion of CFN entrepreneurs. Providing more supports to seniors/elders. Unity. Bringing our community together to provide direction, hear concerns, and working together to build a stronger Caldwell First Nation, together.
